2016 SUV's (2016 Sports Utility Vehicles) - To Add a New Level of Style

The redesigned 2016 Ford Explorer can have subtle exterior changes, but more significant power train and chassis upgrades are most likely. 2016 SUV's (2016 Sports Utility Vehicles)

The current SUV has numerous fathers, the Chevrolet Suburban and Jeep Cherokee among them, however the Ford Explorer may take credit for making these new American station wagons mainstream through the '90s.
The 2016 Explorer will not likely look much different in the current model and should still offer seven-passenger seating. Photos of latest Explorer prototypes advise a stronger, squarer front-end with narrow headlamps, a wide-slatted grille and more angular LED tail lamps. The current 3.5-liter V6 base engine should carry over, with added tweaks for improved efficiency (the present V6 makes 290 horsepower and returns 20 mpg combined).
Another possible engine choice is the 2.7-liter Eco Boost model slated for that forthcoming F-150, while a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder -- exactly the same engine intended as an option for that new Mustang -- will probably switch the current 2.0-liter version. A six-speed automatic transmission should come standard, along with front- and all-wheel-drive options.
The Explorer will almost certainly use aluminum in the body panels to help reduce overall weight. Ford used the expensive, lightweight metal to shed around 700 pounds from the forthcoming F-150 pickup. The Explorer will not lose that much mass, but even 200 or 300 fewer pounds will help deliver impressive gains in the pump.
The current Explorer starts at around $31,000, making it a solid value among seven-passenger SUVs. However, it offers less rear seat and cargo room than rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse or Dodge Durango, and gas mileage is just average. If you can wait for a redesigned 2016 Ford Explorer, you can expect better mileage and perhaps added interior room.
